Harry Potter still Top in Film Industry

Harry Potter led the worldwide box office for a second weekend on Sunday, but the heroic boy wizard had a close shave with a hairy princess in North America.

The seventh film in the hit franchise, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1," sold $163.5 million worth of tickets globally, led by a $50.3 million haul in the United States and Canada, distributor Warner Bros. said.

Of the 62 foreign markets, the best score came from France, where the movie opened at No. 1 with $19.1 million -- the country's best start of the year. After two weekends the worldwide total stands at about $610 million.

But the fearless schoolboy almost lost his North American crown to Rapunzel, the hirsute heroine in the new Walt Disney Co 3D cartoon "Tangled." The fairy tale earned $49.1 million for the three days, far exceeding industry forecasts.

Along with three other movies, "Tangled" opened on Wednesday, one day ahead of the U.S. Thanksgiving Day holiday, giving it a five-day total of $69 million. Pundits had forecast a five day haul of about $40 million.

Disney distribution president Chuck Viane said the film played strongly with families, and many little girls dressed up as princesses for the occasion.

Internationally, "Tangled" earned $13.8 million after opening at No. 1 in six of seven markets. Russia led the way with $7.5 million, a record for a Disney cartoon. It adds eight markets next weekend, including France and Italy. Pop singer/actress Mandy Moore voices the heroine.

The other three new releases all performed to the expectations of their respective studios.

"Burlesque," a musical starring Cher and Christina Aguilera, shared the No. 4 spot with the three-week-old action movie "Unstoppable," each reporting about $11.8 million for the three-day period.

The $55 million musical will be "a real moneymaker," said Rory Bruer, president of worldwide distribution at Sony Corp's Sony Pictures, which released the film through its Screen Gems division.

Women accounted for 69 percent of the audience, and 54 percent of moviegoers were aged 25 or older. But Bruer said the men who went along enjoyed it.

"Love and Other Drugs," a $30 million romantic comedy starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway, followed at No. 6 with $9.9 million. Even though Hathaway has a much-discussed nude scene, the film also played mostly to older women, said News Corp-owned 20th Century Fox.

Male youngsters got their fix with "Faster," an action thriller starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. The movie drove in at No. 7 with $8.7 million. It was distributed in North America by CBS Corp's CBS Films, which split the $24 million production tab with international rights holder Sony.

The five-day total for "Burlesque" stands at $17.2 million, for "Love and Other Drugs" at $14 million, and for "Faster" at $12.2 million. Both "Love" and "Burlesque" will begin their international rollouts just before Christmas.

The new "Harry Potter" movie is off to the strongest start in the series, having earned $220.4 million in North America since opening November 19. The previous film, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," had earned $201 million during the same 10-day span in July 2009. That movie ended up with $302 million domestically, and Time Warner Inc-owned Warner Bros. was similarly confident the new movie would break $300 million.

The foreign total stands at $389.2 million. Top markets include United Kingdom with $53.5 million, Germany with $37 million, Australia with $25 million and Japan with $35 million.

Jonathan Joins Forces with Big Brother team

British TV presenter Jonathan Ross has signed a deal with production team behind blockbuster reality show Big Brother, an Endemol spokesman said.

The Dutch TV and digital production company announced the deal with Ross's own production firm Hotsauce TV to create entertainment programing for the British and world markets.

The deal is unrelated to Ross's scheduled ITV chat show which will air in 2011.

Ross could bring in the necessary star power to help fill the void left after Britain's Big Brother series finished this year at the end of an 11 year run.

Endemol's lenders have said the company has struggled with its levels of debt dating back to its 2007 buy out, and that it needed to develop new shows to syndicate.

Spokesman Said "Obviously we're always looking for new ideas,".

"The company lives and breathes creativity and Jonathan and his company really embody that. Ross is a well known on-screen talent, but he's also got a lot of great ideas as well as knowledge on the production side."

The deal marks a return to action for Ross after a spell away from the limelight following the infamous 'Sachsgate' affair in 2008, involving a lewd radio prank, and his departure from the BBC this year.

Ross first hit the headlines with his chat show The Last Resort in the 1980s, and became one of the country's highest paid entertainers with BBC1 chatshow Friday Night With Jonathan Ross.

Endemol's entertainment roster includes shows such as Channel 4's The Million Pound Drop Live, Deal or No Deal and BBC1's Would I Lie To You?

Travolta and Kelly Announced Third Child Birth

John Travolta and his wife Kelly Preston announced the birth of their 3rd child, a baby boy born nearly two years after the death of their 16 year old son Jett.

The baby, named Benjamin, was born at a hospital in Florida on Tuesday evening weighing more than 8 lbs (3.6 kg).

"John, Kelly and their daughter Ella Bleu are ecstatic and feeling great about the new family member. Mother and baby are healthy and doing beautifully"

Jett, the first child of Travolta, 56, and Preston, 48, died of a seizure in January 2009 while the family was on vacation in the Bahamas. Travolta confirmed after the death that Jett was autistic.

The "Pulp Fiction" and "Grease" star and his actress wife spent a year out of the public spotlight grieving for Jett. The family was also the victim of an alleged $25 million extortion plot over the death that ended in a mistrial for those accused.

Travolta was back on red carpet in January to promote his comedy adventure movie "From Paris with Love" and Preston appeared in the Miley Cyrus movie "The Last Song" in April.

Harry Potter in Taiwan

Hundreds of fans stood in rain as they waited for the arrival of James and Oliver Phelps, or the Weasley twins, at the movie premiere of the latest Harry Potter film in Taipei.

The twins, who took on the supporting roles of the cheeky Fred and George Weasley, met with fans first at an afternoon session where they held the wands and demonstrated their wizards' poses side-by-side. James Phelps, the younger brother of the two by minutes, said that one of the most challenging scenes in the movie was when a magic potion turned them into a duplication of Harry Potter. It has been almost a decade since the launch of the first Harry Potter movie. Loyal fans were excited to see the twins who in the movie own a joke magic shop. The actors greeted the fans as they took time on the red carpet to pose for pictures and sign autographs for the fans who handed them books and posters along the railings beside the red carpet. As the Potter series has developed, each installment has taken on a darker, more serious tone than the last, as the forces of darkness gather and the stakes are raised. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2", which will be released in 3D, is scheduled to hit cinemas in July 2011.

Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll Biography

Full Name: Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll
Shakira Birth Place: Barranquilla, Colombia
Shakira Birth Date: February 2, 1977
Parents: William Mebarak and Nidia Ripoll
Shakira Nationality: Columbian
Ethnicity: Spanish, Italian and Lebanese
Occupation: Musician, Actor
Genres: Latin, Pop, Rnb, Dance
Instruments: Vocals, Guitar

Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll was born on February 2, 1977 in Barranquilla, Colombia. Her father William Mebarak, who is American of Lebanese descent, and Colombian mother, Nidia Ripoll, both supported their daughter's ambition of becoming a singer.

Shakira knew early on that she wanted to be a professional musician and by the time she was 8, she was already writing her own songs. This undeniable prodigy even began playing the guitar by 11 years of age.

During school days, Shakira was making her musical talent known by winning talent shows playing the guitar, and she was even kicked out of her school choir because her voice drowned out the other choir singers. Elsewhere, Shakira impressed judges at local and national competitions, who declared her winner of these contests.

At the age of 13, Shakira had become Sony Colombia's newest artist, and her first album, entitled Magia (Magic) was released. The album was a compilation of songs that she had written between the ages of 8 and 13.

The album was well received and Colombian listeners were beginning to realize who this feisty musician was. The 16-year-old Shakira was chosen to represent her native Colombia at the Festival OTI in Spain, but since she was under the minimum age, she could not participate.

Shakira's second album, Peligro (Danger) was released, and was met with considerable success. Not neglecting her education, she returned to school to receive her high school diploma.

Shakira knew early on in her career that she wanted to sing in the rock genre, despite Sony's original attempts to make her a pop singer, adhering to the commercial standards of the time. Following her heart, Shakira's 3rd album, Pies Descalzos went on to become a huge hit, and featured her own rock, pop and Latin inspired tunes.

Released in 1995, Pies Descalzos's success is largely due to the Latin American radio airplay it received. It spawned number one singles such as "Estoy Aqui" and "Donde Estas Corazon" and many more consecutive hit singles. The album soared up to number one in eight countries and sold over four million copies.

Shakira went on a two year international tour, selling out in every venue. Her popularity pushed her to release Portuguese remixes of her songs for her fans in Brazil.

Shakira entered the realm of acting with a role on the Colombian soap opera El Oasis from 1994 to 1997, but her true passion remained music.

In 1998, Shakira released her 4th album, Donde Estan Los Ladrones?, which has received much critical acclaim and was considered Shakira's breakthrough album -- at least in the Latin genre. The album went multi platinum in America., Colombia, Chile, Argentina, Central America, Mexico, and in Spain.

Latin equivalent of Alanis Morissette thanks to her long dark hair and rock-infused style, Shakira, whose name means "woman full of grace" in Arabic, succeeds to captivate her audience without the bitterness that Morissette is usually associated with.

Shakira was chosen as cover girl for Time Magazine's issue featuring the article "Era of the Rockera," and has also graced the cover of Cosmopolitan.

America's Most Wanted to debut in Asia

The host of "America's Most Wanted" is planning to launch an Asian version of long running American crime TV show in Hong Kong, a report said Monday.

John Walsh said he was negotiating with Star TV to produce "Asia's Most Wanted", although no timetable had been set, The Standard reported.

"We have helped capture dangerous fugitives in UK, Japan and Germany. The next plan is to make the show truly world wide," Walsh told the English language daily.

Walsh, whose own son was murdered in 1981, calls on the American show's viewers to phone in tips to track down fugitives.

Producers work with local law enforcement in choosing those featured on the show, a model which would be replicated in Asia, the paper said.

The programme's 22 year run has seen about 1,130 fugitives captured and 61 abducted children found, The Standard said.

Harry Potter Premieres in London

The first of two movies that bring an end to the Harry Potter adventures has its world premiere in London, leaving its wealthy young stars contemplating their future after a decade in the spotlight.

Daniel Radcliffe, 21, Emma Watson, 20, and Rupert Grint, 22, who have played Harry and his best friends Hermione and Ron in all eight movies, will attend the red carpet premiere in London's Leicester Square.

It is likely to be an emotional moment for the young stars, who must now face the world without their on screen characters who dominated their childhoods and turned them into multi millionaires.

"It's the end of an era," Radcliffe -- Harry -- said ahead of the premiere, adding that when filming wrapped up this year on both parts of "Deathly Hallows", "everyone was sad -- we all cried. It was the end of something amazing."

The first six Harry Potter movies earned 5.4 billion dollars at box office, making it the most successful movie franchise of all time.

In "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One", Voldemort and his evil henchmen control huge swathes of the wizarding world, creating a dark and forbidding environment where Harry and his friends are constantly in danger.

Much of the film involves a road trip, as the trio travel around Britain to try to stay safe, and focuses on the close friendship between the main characters, in particular the budding romance between Hermione and Ron.

It ends on a cliffhanger, however, as the final resolution will not be known until Part Two, which is due out in July. That will cover a huge battle between Potter and his allies and Voldemort's dark forces.

The two movies retain the all star cast of the previous movies, including Oscar-nominated British actor Ralph Fiennes, who plays Voldemort, who will also attend Thursday's premiere.

Part One is released in most parts on the world on 19th November.

The Harry Potter books have sold more than 400 million copies and have been translated into 69 different languages.

Angelina start filming in Bosnia

Hollywood hotest Actress Angelina Jolie will film scenes from directorial debut in Bosnia from November 17 to 21 where her wartime love story between a Serb man and a Muslim woman has sparked controversy.

Bosnian media said that Jolie will movie in the capital Sarajevo and the central town of Vares.

The Hollywood hot star started filming her first feature as a director, an as yet untitled love story set against the background of the bloody 1992-95 inter ethnic war in Bosnia, in Hungary's capital Budapest early October.

The movie caused controversy in Bosnia when local media repeated rumours that the film was the story of a Muslim rape victim who fell in love with her Serb attacker.

Women victims' associations complained about the reported content and in mid of October the Bosnian authorities suspended Jolie's filming permit.

It was quickly reinstated after Jolie sent the authorities a copy of the script which her Bosnian production company says does not include any rape love story.

The actress turned director has said she wants to meet the women victims' associations who complained about her movie while she is shooting in Bosnia to clear up any misunderstandings.

The Social Network Review

It is rare that a script writer’s name draws you to a film. But it did, Aaron Sorkin. The man who made the incredible West Wing an intelligent must watch drama with some of the best lines in English script history has also scripted The Social Network. Seconded by the fact that Facebook has become part of a social survival tool rivaled and beaten probably only by the cell phone. With 500 mn nodding their heads it will be difficult to disagree that it is not a hovering influence over our lives.

And to think that interface which has that many millions glued to it was born out of a serious disagreement with a date of a Mark Zuckerburg, that curly haired irreverent whiz kid lad of Harvard. Bored with challenges the campuses had to offer him and his buddy Eduardo Saverin, he goes about cheesing off his girlfriend with repulsive chatter prompting her to dump him and paving the way for his vengeance to channel into a path breaking blog and later an application to quiz electronically, probably the first of the applications which dot FaceBook now.

Michael Jackson album gets release

A new album of previously unheard Michael Jackson songs will be released on 14th December, the first such release since the pop star died last year.

Known just "Michael," the album marks the latest commercial venture by Jackson's estate since the "Thriller" singer succumbed to a fatal overdose of prescription drugs in June 2009, aged 50.

But apart from revealing the album's title, regal artwork, and the name of one track, "Breaking News," Sony Music is keeping a firm lid on the project.

A spokeswoman declined to say how many tracks were on the album, reveal any other song titles, or indicate the extent of production work that was done after Jackson's death.

The secrecy follows an embarrassing debacle last year when "This Is It," a new Jackson single touted as his first posthumous release, turned out to have been first recorded 18 years earlier under a different title by an obscure Puerto Rican singer. The song's co-writer, Paul Anka, threatened to sue Jackson's estate and was quickly assigned half the copyright.

Jackson's commercial fortunes were on the wane long before his death, though grieving fans turned him into one of the biggest selling artists last year. His last studio album, "Invincible," was a commercial and critical disappointment in 2001. But a posthumous concert film and related soundtrack album, both also called "This is It," topped the worldwide charts last November.

Other tracks were recorded at studios in Las Vegas and Los Angeles with various unidentified collaborators, Sony Music said. At the time of his death, Jackson was reported to be working with contemporary hitmakers like R&B star Akon and Lady Gaga collaborator RedOne.

The album cover artwork features two naked cherubs placing a crown on Jackson's head against a mural depicting the singer throughout his career. It comes from an oil painting by Kadir Nelson, who told Reuters via email that Jackson approached him several years ago to create a project detailing his life and career. The project stalled, but was revived last year by one of the estate's executors, John McClain. Most of the work was done during a five-month period through last month.

Michael wears a golden suit of armor and stares at the viewer as he is crowned by cupids," Nelson said. "He places his hand over his heart and looks directly at the viewer, a symbol of Jackson's big heart and strong connection to his fans and music. A monarch butterfly sits on his shoulder, another symbol of Jackson's metamorphosis as a singer and entertainer, as well as a symbol of royalty. His musical history unfolds behind him.

Jolie turns Film Director

Hollywood hotest actress Angelina Jolie looks like she’s getting stuck right in to her new look as film director.

Angelina has scuttled behind the camera and is busy filming her directorial debut on location in Budapest, Hungary.

And it looks like Ange is enjoying every second: making sure that every detail is correct, instructing the team around her and bending down to look through a rusty old car prop to get the angle just right.

United Love Story, which Angelina wrote, tells the Romeo and Juliet-syle story of a Serbian man and Bosnian woman who meet on the eve of the 1992-95 Bosnian war (just for all you fact fans out there).

The hot director said of her £10million movie: “There are many twists in the plot that address the sensitive nature of the relationship between the main characters, and that will be revealed once the film is released. My hope is that people will hold judgement until they have seen the film.”

Armed with the obligatory sunglasses (she is Angelina Jolie, after all), she strode confidently around a set that seemed to be a suitably war-ravaged Bosnian town.

And we must say, we’ll definitely be taking our place in the cinema if it means we get to see any more of that handsome actor in the brown leather jacket. Yes please.
