Pamela Anderson ad too racy for Hong Kong airport

An animal rights commercial starring former Playboy centrefold Pamela Anderson, which is banned at some US airports, has been deemed too racy for Hong Kong, one of Asia's busiest aviation hubs.

The advertisement, titled "Cruelty Doesn't Fly", features the scantily clad former "Baywatch" star as an airport security guard who strips passengers of leather, fur and other skins.

A couple, seen nude from behind, also appears in the video commercial created by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

"Given the groping that you see at security checkpoints and the nudity that you see in body scans we're surprised that our lighthearted ad was deemed too risque", said Jason Baker, PETA Asia's vice president.

The animal rights group said its ad was vetoed by JCDecaux, the advertising agency responsible for airing videos at Hong Kong's airport.

In a statement, the city's airport authority said the commercial was "considered inappropriate" because it might offend some visitors.

PETA said, The ad, which also features comedian Steve-O, a star of the 'Jackass' movie series, and German punk icon Nina Hagen is already banned at airports in New York City and Boston.

The animal rights group said it still hoping to run the ad in other Asia Pacific airports, including Tokyo, Seoul and Sydney.

Johnny loved being ‘silly’ for upcoming film

Johnny Depp enjoyed making his upcoming film Rango as it gave him the chance to “be silly”.

The actor provides the voice for the movie’s title role, with stars including Bill Nighy, Isla Fisher and Abigail Breslin also displaying their vocal talents.

The comedy is CGI-animated, with the actor’s own facial expressions providing a reference for their roles, and Johnny loved delivering his performances on a soundstage alongside his co-stars.

"I think it just gives a bunch of grownups an opportunity to be silly," he laughed.

The movie is set for release next year, and tells the tale of a chameleon that aspires to be a swashbuckling hero before finding himself stuck in a Western town plagued by bandits. Johnny felt he had a great deal in common with his reptile character, as he too sometimes wonders who he really is.

"Rango is a lizard attempting to adapt to his surroundings," the star told ET. "He's trying to figure out what he's supposed to be, like most of us in life. It's certainly like nothing I've ever done before, or any of us have ever done before."

Charlie 33rd death anniversary

Hollywood Renowned comic actor of the silent movies Charlie Chaplin passed 33 years ago, as December 25, 1977 was the last day of his life.

Sir Charles Spencer "Charlie" Chaplin, KBE, who was born on 16 April 1889, was an English comic actor and movie director of the silent film era. He became one of the best known film stars in the world before the end of the First World War.

Chaplin used mime, slapstick and other visual comedy routines, and continued well into the era of the talkies, though his films decreased in frequency from the end of the 1920s. His most famous role was that of The Tramp, which he first played in the Keystone comedy Kid Auto Races at Venice in 1914.

Chaplin was one of the most creative and influential personalities of the silent-film era. He was influenced by his predecessor, the French silent movie comedian Max Linder, to whom he dedicated one of his films. His working life in entertainment spanned over 75 years, from the Victorian stage and the Music Hall in the United Kingdom as a child performer, until close to his death at the age of 88.

In 1999, the American Film Institute ranked Chaplin the 10th greatest male screen legend of all time. In 2008, Martin Sieff, in a review of the book Chaplin: A Life, wrote: "Chaplin was not just 'big', he was gigantic. In 1915, he burst onto a war-torn world bringing it the gift of comedy, laughter and relief while it was tearing itself apart through World War I.

Reynolds Johansson divorce

Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences, a week after they announced their amicable split, documents showed.

The couple named sexiest male and female alive in separate polls in recent years both filed papers the same day to dissolve their two-year marriage, according to the documents obtained by the TMZ celebrity news website.

The legal documents, filed at the Los Angeles Superior Court, gave the date of separation as December 14 the day they announced their split last week and ticked the box citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason.

The couple did not sign a pre-nuptial agreement before their September 2008 wedding, TMZ reported, citing sources as saying that Ryan made more money than the US actress during their marriage.

Johansson, 26, famous for roles in films such as "Lost in Translation" and "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," had said in press reports that being apart from Canadian star Reynolds due to filming schedules was hard on a relationship.

"We entered our relationship with love and it's with love and kindness we leave it. While privacy isn't expected, it's certainly appreciated," the couple said in a statement announcing their separation last week.

People magazine cited an unnamed source as saying the couple quietly split six months ago, adding that Johansson - named Sexiest Woman Alive by Esquire magazine in 2006 -- initiated the move.

The actress had already begun apartment-hunting in her native New York City, it added.

In case he's crushed, he shouldn't have too hard a time finding a date: Reynolds, 34, was named People's "Sexiest Man Alive" two weeks before they announced their split.

Known for films such as "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," the Canadian actor is starring in an upcoming silver screen version of the comic classic "Green Lantern."

Before his relationship with Johansson, Reynolds was engaged to Canadian singer.

Alien Girl a lethargic Russian mob thriller

The title character in Russian director Anton Bormatov's debut feature, "Alien Girl," is Angela (Natalia Romanycheva). Initially, it appears she got her nickname because she and her brother felt like aliens in the orphanage where they grew up. But later, after her reputation as a hardboiled killer has spread, it's revealed as a nod to the Ridley Scott franchise when someone pegs her as a dragon with acid for blood who lays eggs in people.

Adapted by Sergey Sokolyuk from a graphic novel by Vladimir "Adolfych" Nesterenko (a former organized crime gang member in the '90s, now a popular blogger), the plot hinges on Angela's retrieval from Prague, where she has been sold as a sex slave to unsavory gypsies. Ukrainian thugs working for Rasp (Eugene Mundum) are dispatched to fetch her in order to exert influence over her brother, who threatens to name names in a mob trial. But Angela sows distrust among the posse, wiping out half of them while hooking up with the youngest and most volatile, Whiz (Eugene Tkachuk).

Those ingredients suggest entertainingly hyperviolent, Eurotrashy exploitation, and with its grimy visuals and preference for types over characters, the film does occasionally recall action thrillers from La Femme Nikitato The Transporter. But the borscht is a little flavorless. There's insufficient suspense in the life-or-death stakes, sketchy plot detail in the gang clash that triggers the action and too little ambiguity in the inter character dynamics.

Romanycheva looks the part with her hacked-off hair and contemptuous pout, and her seduction scene on a moving train with Whiz packs heat. But she remains only a semi-intriguing central figure, not even introduced until a half-hour into the too-leisurely movie. There also are structural problems, like when Angela and Whiz go rogue with a bunch of allies who materialize out of nowhere.

Tron leads weak pack at box office

"Tron: Legacy," Walt Disney Co has promoted for more than three years, opened disappointingly at the weekend box office in North America, while a new comedy starring Reese Witherspoon was one of the biggest flops of the year.

The "Tron" movie, a massively hyped sequel to an obscure 1982 movie, earned $43.6 million during its first three days of release. Industry observers had been expecting a three-day start in the $50 million range, although Disney said the opening was within its own expectations.

The effects-laden update reportedly cost $170 million to make, and more than $100 million to market worldwide. Disney never divulges budgets.

Internationally, the film earned a modest $23 million from No. 1 openings in all 26 of its markets, including Japan, Australia, Britain and Brazil. These markets represent about half of the international sales pie.

Meanwhile "How Do You Know" opened at No. 8 with just $7.6 million in the United States and Canada, far short of modest expectations in the $12 million range. The Columbia Pictures project cost about $100 million to make, with half the budget spent on salaries for Witherspoon, co-stars Jack Nicholson, Owen Wilson and Paul Rudd, and writer/director James L. Brooks. Extensive reshoots also drove up costs.

Executives at the Sony Corp unit were despondent about the opening, although the film had suffered bad buzz for some time with no help from a forgettable title.

A third newcomer did not do much better. "Yogi Bear," a live-action/animated update of the old television cartoon, came in at No. 2 with $16.7 million. Distributor Warner Bros. said it had hoped for an opening between $18 million and $20 million, but the Time Warner Inc unit expected the Christmas holiday would boost business. The $80 million film stars Dan Aykroyd as the voice of the title character and Justin Timberlake as his sidekick Boo Boo.

Critics trashed all three films, which vied for the attention of holiday-distracted moviegoers alongside national expansions of acclaimed awards-season contenders Paramount Pictures' "The Fighter" (No. 4, $12.2 million) and Fox Searchlight's "Black Swan" (No. 7, $8.3 million).

Last weekend's champion, 20th Century Fox's "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader," fell to No. 3 with $12.4 million in its second weekend.

"The Tourist," a widely mocked caper starring Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp, dropped three places to No. 5 with $8.7 million, also in its second weekend. The Columbia release tied with Disney's former chart-topping cartoon "Tangled."

The final weekend before Christmas is traditionally slow, although films often enjoy long runs as school holidays start to take effect. But overall business has been weak for some time, with year-on-year sales down for six weekends in a row.

Johnny has no mobile phone

With the world going gaga over mobile phones, it comes as a surprise that Hollywood Star Johnny Depp actually does not use cell phones and not even call when he is at home! But he says, though he doesn’t like to be reachable all time through mobile phones, Internet does fascinate him as an “interesting” form of communication. When he was queried how he would be contacted, he replied that he could be just buzzed on the Internet or something. (And what if that fails?! Try the old pigeon messenger or some other form of “interesting communication”!) Yes, it’s so strange. Well but that’s – ‘tech-free’ or may be ‘mobile-free’ – Johnny Depp for you!!

Jolie avoid Depp's 'Tourist' trap

Staggeringly misjudged in virtually every department, from the wannabe effervescent script to Depp's dopey hairdo, the Sony release stands as an object lesson in the perils of succumbing to the siren call of big-time Hollywood filmmaking for a foreign director with one art house hit behind him. The studio's publicity machine will work overtime to drum up some initial business, but "Tourist" will fall into a trap of its own making.

After receiving near-universal acclaim and a foreign-language Oscar for his 2006 debut feature, "The Lives of Others," a quietly riveting suspense drama set in East Germany, Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, who grew up partially in the US and speaks perfect English, was inundated with offers from all quarters but wanted to choose carefully. After such a long delay, for him to have finally settled on this trifling romp over the rooftops and in the canals of Venice is stupefying to say the least and will give plenty of ammunition to the small band of detractors of his earlier outing.

Embalmed in makeup and elegant gowns that puts one in mind of Loretta Young and employing a reserved English accent that allows no possibility of genuine emotional expression, Jolie plays Elise, the object of much male attention in the opening scenes, which is no surprise even though the men in question are all surveillance experts intent upon following her every move in the hope she'll lead them to her criminal lover, one Alexander Pearce. After she receives a note instructing her to take a morning train from Paris to Venice, the chase is on, and she knows it.

With every guy on board keen for Elise to sit next to them, she instead gloms on to the scruffy, rather forlorn-looking Frank Tupelo, a mild-mannered math teacher from Wisconsin. Baffled and unnerved by her attentions, Frank is thoroughly unequipped to partake in the kind of witty, insinuating dialogue expected in stories of train-bound intrigue. Not that Donnersmarck, having revamped previous scripts by the estimable Julian Fellowes and Christopher McQuarrie, has written any. But it's woefully clear from their first scene together that, not only is there nothing clicking between the stars, but that the entire enterprise is madly artificial and silly, that whatever games are being played here are not going to be fun.

Donnersmarck, along with his multitude of producers, must have dreamed that, with two of the most glamorous and best-looking stars in the business, he had a shot of making a modern Hitchcock romantic thriller along the lines of "The 39 Steps," "To Catch a Thief" and "North by Northwest." Well, dream on. No one here evinces the slightest feel for that sort of sly sophistication. Instead, we get tiresome scenes of the hapless Frank, who's presumed to be the much sought-after Alexander, being pursued by goons of a Scotland Yard contingent led by Paul Bettany and by those of a gangster tycoon (Steven Berkoff) from whom Alexander stole a fortune and who you'd believe to be Russian but for his British accent.

Least accountable of all is the growing affection Elise seems to be feeling for the ineffectual Frank. Or is she pretending? One minute she invites him into her sumptuous suite at the Danieli, the next she makes him sleep on the couch. After telling him to go home and dropping him at the airport, she then dances with him at an elegant ball. But no matter as the film manages to build nary a trace of interest in either character.

Looking puffy and unassertive, Depp never has registered less effectively in his entire film career. For Jolie's part, the nature of her role doesn't allow her to show her hand to anyone, severely limiting the extent of characterization. This is where wit and lively banter would come in handy, but this is more difficult to appropriate from old movies than is format.

Surely Donnersmarck did not set out to remake Death in Venice, but artistically, that is what has been achieved.

Tom to Star in Controversial Latino Movie

Tom Hanks is to star in a new movie by Kathryn Bigelow which has sparked fury in Latin America, the film's producer was quoted as saying Wednesday.

Paraguay and Argentina are refusing to cooperate in the production of the film "Triple Frontier," which focuses on a border region between the two countries and Brazil thought to be a center for terror financing.

"Tom Hanks is starring in the movie," producer Charles Roven told the ComingSoon.net online movie news website. "We're still looking to cast the other roles. We're hoping to start shooting the film sometime in mid-March."

There was no immediate response from publicists for Hanks, famous for roles in "Sleepless in Seattle," "Forrest Gump," "Saving Private Ryan" and "Castaway."

The border region has long been associated with trade in contraband items and the American government has also said it is a center for terror financing, a claim denied by the three countries involved.

Mila Kuni Biography

A cute actress with olive skin and pixie features, Milena Markovna Kunis are Russian born, became a breakout teen star on the FOX sitcom That_'70s_Show, playing spoiled daddy's girl Jackie Burkhardt. The rare 15 year old actress to be cast as a 15 year-old character, Mila Kunis also demonstrated her maturity by mastering accent free English only a few years after immigrating.

Milena was born on August 14, 1983 in Kiev, Ukraine, moved with her parents to Los Angeles, USA when she was seven years old. Kunis credits listening to the simple vocabulary of Bob Barker on The Price Is Right with helping her develop a speedy fluency in English. She enrolled in acting classes at the Beverly Hills Studio, where she was discovered performing in a showcase. She quickly began appearing in commercials. Kunis filled out her early resumé with such pit stops as Honey,_We_Shrunk_Ourselves (1997), Krippendorf's_Tribe (1998), and the infamous WB ratings cellar-dweller Nick Freno: Licensed Teacher (1996). She also played a younger version of Angelina_Jolie in the HBO movie Gia (1998). But it was her casting in Mark_Brazill's That_'70s_Show that earned Kunis notice, as her petulant teen queen soon became a standout, able to range from endearing to grating. Her aggravated whining rung true enough to earn her a voice-over role on Family Guy, taking over for Lacey_Chabert as Megan Griffin during the 2000 season.

Kunis played a supporting role in the teen comedy Get_Over_It (2001) and a lead role in unlikely sequel American Psycho II: All American Girl (2002) while continuing as a TV regular. She also followed in Alicia_Silverstone's footsteps by appearing in the Aerosmith video for "Jaded." Derek Armstrong, Rovi
